Finding Profitable Niche Keywords
Now that you have brainstormed and gotten your 4-5 niche ideas it is time to find those longtail keywords that will grab the traffic you need to be successful within your niche. I can’t stress enough how important this step is. The only difference between you and someone who is making a full-time living online is that they know this stuff. That is it. Purse and simple. They KNOW how to select the keywords that will give them the best results with the minimum amount of effort.
Unless you have an unlimited amount of resources to buy your traffic you will need to obtain it organically. The only way you are going to do that is through the use of longtail keywords and getting ranked in Google.
Firstly, let me explain what longtail keywords and keyword phrases are. It is the term used for a phrase that typical searchers would use to access information on search engines. For example, your desired niche may be iPods. We know that there are millions and millions of sites out there targeting that keyword so we cannot possibly expect to crack the top ranks within Google with that amount of competition. An example of a keyword phrase would be iPod Shuffle. Still too much competition. A longtail keyword would be iPod Shuffle troubleshooting.
Google is a great place to start your research since, for the most part, we focus these lessons on getting ranked in Google.
- Open another browser window.
- Go to Google and type in iPod in the search box.
- Now pay particular attention to the top right of the search results.

Doing keyword research in Google
- This number tells us that there are 268,000,000 web pages competing for this keyword.
- Now type in the phrase iPod Shuffle and compare the results.
- Next type in iPod Shuffle Troubleshooting and compare the results.
This is still not a great longtail keyword phrase because there is still too much competition for a beginner but you should now be getting the idea of how important the longtail keyword is in reducing the amount of competition.
So how do you find profitable niche longtail keywords?
Finding Profitable Longtail Keywords
One place to start is the bottom of the Google search results. Scroll down the page and look for the related searches.

Keyword phrases in the related searches
I highly recommend checking each related search out and comparing the number of pages competing for the keyword phrase. Go through the same processĀ with each ; looking at the related searches until you find the longtail phrase within your niche that has the least amount of competition.
The ideal number to look for is search results with under 30,000 competition. This is often a daunting task as there are so very many websites on the web now and everyone is looking for that gem that will convert into dollars. Do not get discouraged! You WILL find them and succeed. It is just sometimes very tedious work and one that I am sure all of us would avoid if possible. But remember keyword research is the foundation of your success in niche marketing.
Do not be surprised if this process takes you a week or more to do. Do not be disappointed if you are unable to come up with a quality longtail keyword for your chosen niche. That is the reason I wanted you to come up with 4-5 niches in the first place. Not every niche you may have chosen will be a good one to start out with. Dig deep. The more specific within the niche you get the more chance you have of success.
That is the end of today’s lesson in finding profitable niche keywords. Go out and conquer your competition by finding those long tail keywords. When you have found at least one in each of your niches (if possible) come back and I will show you some cool tools to help you analyze the profitability of your keyword phrases.
